Healthcare Active Shooter Training: The Health and Safety Institute (HSI) Active Violence Immediate Response Training (AVIRT) program can be specifically tailored to meet the needs of healthcare organizations, including hospitals, clinics, organ procurement organizations, urgent care centers, and long-term care facilities. Delivered with healthcare professionals and staff members in mind, this program offers cognitive information and hands-on activities geared towards preparing participants for potential active violence events within the healthcare setting.
With a focus on real-life scenarios and industry-specific challenges, AVIRT equips healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond to active violence situations, thereby increasing the likelihood of survival for both staff and patients. Unlike traditional workplace first aid training, AVIRT addresses the unique threats faced by healthcare organizations.
The primary goal of AVIRT is to empower healthcare professionals to react swiftly and decisively in the event of an active violence incident, minimizing harm and maximizing safety for all involved. Upon enrollment in the training program, participants receive comprehensive guidance through the student guide, ensuring they are fully prepared to confront and manage potential threats within the environment.

In the traditional classroom delivery method, there are no prerequisites to attend training. Cognitive information and psychomotor skill practice opportunities
are delivered lesson-by-lesson in this live,
face-to-face setting by an authorized HSI AVIRT Instructor.
In the blended learning delivery method, successful completion of the online portion is required to attend the face-to-face classroom session with an HSI
AVIRT Instructor.
Cognitive information is delivered in the online lessons, where students can learn at their own pace, followed by psychomotor skill practice opportunities
in a traditional classroom setting with an authorized HSI AVIRT Instructor.
When a student completes the HSI AVIRT Online Portion for blended learning, the online portion completion
will be recorded.
The HSI AVIRT Online-Only Course is a training solution for potential clients or customers for whom traditional classroom or blended learning with hands-on skill practice is not practical or feasible (i.e., thousands of employees,
limited training space or budget, etc.). When hands-on skill practice at a 15:1 student-to-instructor ratio is not
practical for a client, this course may meet active shooter training regulations and provides documentation of successful completion if students pass the course.
